Michael Shea Ruffin

August 21, 2022

CHARLOTTE – Michael Shea Ruffin, 80, died peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022 having faced his medical issues with class, wit, and a positive attitude.  He was born on August 6, 1942 in Birmingham, AL to Margaret Adele Shea and Marvin Britt Ruffin.

Mike spent his childhood in Grand Rapids, MI.  After high school he attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL. He worked as a Manufacturers Representative in the commercial building industry.  During his retirement, Mike volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem; a position that he valued as he strived to be of help to others.

Mike was known for his willingness to offer help and care whenever needed to his many friends.  Chris Jones, Henry Pharr, Roger English, Phil VanHoy and Ronnie Sherrill were but a few to whom he selflessly gave his time.  He was a fixture at the Dowd YMCA, especially at the ‘round table’ during lunch and loved Pearline’s coconut cream pie from the Y’s kitchen.  His sense of humor and love of life earned him the title of ‘Uncle Good Time’ as he never met a stranger and enjoyed making new friends of all ages.

Mike is survived by his son, Shea Ruffin of Raleigh, NC; brothers, Roger Ruffin and Mark Ruffin, and sisters, Mary Ruffin and Nancy Stoutenburg.  He is also survived by Riley ‘The Wonder Dog’ of Charlotte, NC.

There will be a private family memorial at a later date.

Memorials may be offered in memory of Mike to the Dowd YMCA, 400 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

So sorry to learn of Mike's passing. Had social contact with him many years ago in a golfing group - The Cold Beer Open.
He was a very affable and likable fellow - always positive. It was a pleasure to run into him on occasion in recent years.
May his positive spirit live on in good memories.

Mike was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Always interesting and enjoyable to talk with. Never let differences of opinion stands in the way of friendship. Love the fact that the list of other members of his family includes Riley the Wonder Dog. Mike-- one of the truly good guys of whom this country has far too few.
