Jean Hunt Graeber

August 17, 2022

Jean Hunt Graeber, 98, died on August 17, 2022, at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, NC after several years of declining health. She was born on April 22, 1924, in Marion, NC to the late Adam Frank Hunt and Sally Humphries Hunt, and was the eighth of their nine children.

Jean attended Marion city schools and Queens College. After leaving Queens, Jean went to work for Wachovia Bank in Charlotte. She rented a room from homeowners at 1245 Providence Road. Little did she know, she would eventually meet and marry their son, Gene, upon his return from service overseas during World War II. On August 25, 1945, Jean married the love of her life, Eugene Blake Graeber, Jr. Jean and Gene were happily married for sixty years until his death in 2006. They were devoted members of Myers Park Presbyterian Church since 1947. Jean loved spending time with her many friends, but her greatest loves were her church, her husband, raising her three children, and being a very special part of the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.…all of whom were the beneficiaries of Nana’s generous and unconditional love.

She is survived by three children; Susan Mcilwain and husband, Marc of Simpsonville, SC, Blake Graeber and wife, Ashley of Charlotte, and Anne Dann and her husband, Bob of Lookout Mountain, GA; eleven grandchildren, Kelly Philpott and husband, David, Bryan Pettit and wife, Kim, Jennifer Cole and husband, Mike, Michael Pettitt and wife, Mary Chappell, Cameron Graeber, Bryant Graeber, Connor Graeber, Katherine Ogden and husband, Wes, William Dann and wife, Ludy, Andrew Dann and wife, Alex, and Robert Dann and wife, Emily; ten great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Taylor of Kinston, NC.

To the Graeber kids I offer my condolences. I remember the good times we all had at Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, as Gene and Jean were great friends of my parents Floyd and Evangeline Bost. I’m sorry for your loss and wish you comfort in this time.
