Apostolos “Paul” Katopodis
Paul Katopodis, of Charlotte, NC passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 at his vacation home in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, his “Happy Place”! He was surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born in Karya, Lefkada, Greece on February 15, 1937, the son of Dimitrios Katopodis and Ourania Stavrakas. He met the love of his life, Loula Kanos in 1959 and they married on December 10, 1961. Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 60 years, Loula along with their children: Jimmy Katopodis (Sandy), Kiki Ballas (Nickolas) and Tammy Katopodis. He was Blessed with four Grandchildren, Paul Katopodis, Angelika Ballas, Jaimee Ballas and Sydney Ballas; and Kristi Miller and Jordan Meggs and Great Grandson Davis Meggs. He is survived by his Brothers: Bill Katopodis (Theodoula), Art Katopodis (Olga), Phillip Katopodis (Maria) and Sister: Lula Katopodis (Angelo) and sister in law: Mary Koutsokalis along with many nephews and nieces. He was also predeceased by his sisters: Vickie Mikronis (Spiro), Effie Koucouliotis (George); Andy Koutsokalis and Daniel Meggs.
In 1956, at the age of 19, Paul journeyed to the United States carrying the vast sum of $7 in his pocket. There he met his Uncle and Aunt and Brothers and began a lifelong career in the Restaurant business. Paul’s restaurant ventures began with Greystone Restaurant, followed by Tammy’s Restaurant, Plank House Pizza and Coffey Creek Cafe. He simultaneously began a lifelong love of buying, managing and developing commercial real estate. He had an astute knack for finding opportunities that seemed hidden and leveraging them for greater things. He was an avid and loyal member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral as well as of Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel. He always lended a helping hand in all church and community activities and could be found annually at the Greek Festival singing along with songs as well as creating his own. As one dear friend stated, “Paul may have been a small figure in stature but had a PERSONALITY that was bigger than a House!” Whomever was Blessed to have had Paul cross their life’s path was left with a laugh, a love and an effervescent smile.
Paul and Loula hosted family and friends for over 41 years at their second home in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, which was his place of joy….yet the greatest times and moments of joy, (besides fishing) were sharing time with all of his loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Paul to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or the Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park, 124 Jim Parker Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
