Donald Mitchell (Don) Rothrock

June 25, 2022

Donald Mitchell (Don) Rothrock, 84, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on June 25, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 58 years, Ramona Rothrock and his children Grace Novinger (Jeff), Jill Rothrock Harke (Paul), Holly Rothrock (Mark) and Mitchell Rothrock (Gloria).

Don was born on December 5, 1937, in Greensboro, NC to Emory Cornelius Rothrock and Elizabeth Mitchell Rothrock. In addition to his wife and four children, Don is survived his brothers, Jack and Richard Rothrock of Greensboro, NC, and his grandchildren Isaías, Max, Miles, India, Jackson, Lila and Gabriel. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Dennis Rothrock, Jennifer Metcalf (Clay), Amy Caldwell (John), Neil Rothrock (Millie) and Pat Rothrock and his sister-in-law Faye Hartman and brother-in-law Rodney Holdren (Jozie).

Don was a star quarterback at Greensboro High and was set to play football for UNC, but a knee injury cut his football career short. He would become a loyal and boisterous fan of all Tarheel sports. After graduating UNC and serving in the Coast Guard, Don began a career in the food brokerage business that had he and Ramona moving between Charlotte, NC, New York, Virginia, and Chicago, before returning to Charlotte for good in 1979.

Don was an avid reader and a lover of all genres of music, passions he shared and passed on to his children. But more importantly, Don leaves a legacy of empathy, values, kindness, and compassion. He loved to share a laugh, a beer, and a round of golf with his loyal friends who lovingly called him “Rock.” But first and foremost, Don was a family man that devoted himself to his wife and children. His favorite thing was having his entire family together at Litchfield Beach where there was constant commotion, laughter, “playful” debate, and lots and lots of love.

A service to celebrate Don's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Myers Park Methodist Church. Reception to follow at the church. The service is avaliable online at https://myersparkumc.org/worship-with-us/watch-live/
