CHARLOTTE – Harriet Byrd (Minichan) Thomas, 90, of Charlotte, NC passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.  Harriet was born May 31, 1931 to David Parrish Minichan and Harriett Catherine (Hogan) Minichan of Roanoke, VA.

A graduate of Longwood College in 1953, she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Harriet taught school in Virginia prior to her marriage. She was employed at The Mole Hole Gift Shop of Charlotte for over forty years and continued to work there until her death.  Harriet married her husband Hayes in 1955 and they were married 67 years.  She was an active member of the Christian Home Class at Providence United Methodist Church since 1964.  Harriet was an avid reader, gardener, seamstress, and accomplished in many styles of needlework.  Her pleasant nature and quick sense of humor drew many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends to her.  She was loved by many.

Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Hayes Napier Thomas, Sr. seven weeks ago and her sister, Barbara Lee Sherertz of Roanoke, VA.  She is survived by her children, Hayes Napier Thomas, Jr. and his wife, Judy of Fort Mill, SC, Robert Minichan Thomas and his wife, Laura of Waxhaw, NC and Harriet Byrd Thomas of Belfast, Maine.  Also surviving are her four grandchildren of whom she was blessed; Allyson Spratt and her husband, Zack, Hayes Thomas III and his wife, Courtney, Bruce Thomas and Robert Thomas; great-grandchildren, Sutton and Harper Spratt and her brother, Dr. David Parrish Minichan, Jr. of Roanoke, VA.   

A memorial service for Harriet will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Providence United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  The service will be livestreamed at: https://boxcast.tv/view/harriett-thomas-memorial-p4epo6hdluguda3oqpvj for those unable to attend in person.
