John William Buckwell

John William Buckwell, age 84, of Charlotte, NC, went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 12, 2022.

John was born in Concord, NC, on January 23, 1938 to the late Vester Lee Buckwell and Addie Pauline Ritchie. He spent his early years in Concord, attending Concord High School and until his death, kept up with schoolmates by attending reunions. He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school and spent 5 years serving his country. John attended UNCC after being discharged while working for First Union National Bank. He spent most of his working career, 30 years, at Caraustar Industries, retiring in 2003.

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Isla Jean Cox Buckwell, his loving daughter, Paula Buckwell Hilton (Bill) and the joys of his life, his two beautiful granddaughters, Addison Grace Hilton and Ryleigh Jean Hilton. He is also survived by his sister, Carol R. Elliott and leaves behind nieces, Peggy Triulzi (Bob) and Pat Onderdonk (Dave) as well as nephews David Elliott (Bonnie), Jimmy Elliott (Linda), John Elliott (Cathy) and Steve Elliott (Sheila) and several great-nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

The family would like to thank John’s primary care physician, Dr. H. Dowe Albright, III as well as the staff at Carolina Caring for their care of John.

A funeral to celebrate John’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of John to the Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

    I was saddened to hear of John's passing, but cherish fond memories of him in my class at Concord High School's class off 1956. John always seemed happy, out-going and a friend to everyone.
