Hayes Napier Thomas

Hayes Napier Thomas, 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away on February 20, 2022. He was born on March 9, 1930, to Charles Randolph Thomas and Sudie Elise (nee Hayes) Thomas of Milton, NC.

Hayes is survived by his wife of 67 years, Harriet Minichan Thomas, and his children Hayes Napier Thomas, Jr. (Judy) of Fort Mill, SC, Robert Minichan Thomas (Laura) of Waxhaw, NC, and Harriet Byrd Thomas of Belfast, Maine, his sister Helen Thomas Wells of Spartanburg, SC, and brother John Moore Thomas (Angela) of Leasburg, NC. Hayes was predeceased by his brother Charles Randolph Thomas, Jr of Chester, VA.

Hayes was blessed with four grandchildren: Allyson Spratt (Zack); Hayes Thomas III (Courtney); Bruce Thomas; Robert Thomas; and two great grandchildren Sutton Spratt and Harper Spratt. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in 1952, Hayes was a member of the football team and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. An Army veteran, he served in Germany during the Korean War. After returning home, Hayes was in retail business with his brother in Danville, VA and later became a stockbroker which brought his family to Charlotte, NC. Hayes was an active member of the Christian Home Class at Providence United Methodist Church since 1964. An avid reader, he was a history buff and storyteller. Proud of his Scottish heritage, Hayes attended the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games for 53 years.

A memorial service for Hayes will be Friday, March 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Providence United Methodist Church.  The service will be live-streamed at https://boxcast.tv/view/hayes-thomas-memorial-service-621111
