CHARLOTTE – Stephen James Mullis

Stephen James Mullis, 32, passed away on January 1, 2022. Stephen was born February 8, 1989 to David Randall Mullis Sr. and Alisa Reames Mullis. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School where he excelled in baseball. He attended Brevard College and received honors as Student Athelete of the Month and Offensive Player of the Year while playing baseball for Brevard. In 2012 he graduated from Belmont Abby College where he earned and BA degree in education and excelled in baseball. He played for the SCBL Stingers during his time at Belmont Abby.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by a brother, Christopher Mullis; the love of his life, Emily Kenley; uncles, David Reames who was always there for him and they had a special bond and Rick Mullis and his wife, Cheryl; aunt, Vickie Penley and her husband, Ted; and countless cousins and friends. He will also be truly missed by his best friends, Kodi Schrenk and cousin Jason Reames as well as his dogs, Allie Mae and Stevie. Stephen was preceded in death by a brother, David Mullis.

A service to celebrate Stephen’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mount Holly Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.  Mask will be required.

    I was so shocked to hear of Stephen's death. He was in two of my classes at the Abbey. We talked baseball and he loved West Mecklenburg. He was way too young with so much life ahead. Please accept my sympathy.
