Lucas Peter Kanelos
January 4, 2022
MARVIN – Lucas Peter Kanelos, age 20, received his "angel wings" on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 after a brief illness but lifelong struggle with multiple medical conditions. He was born in Charlotte, NC on July 26, 2001.
Lucas was a happy young man with a million-dollar smile and infectious laugh. He loved beads, music, ice cream, and splashing in any type of water. Those who were fortunate enough to know him had been either hit with beads or soaked during a splashing episode. Lucas was both mischievous and a charmer, especially with women. When he gave you his million-dollar smile and head tilt it meant he was trying to win you over.
Lucas is survived by his parents, Dino and Sharon Kanelos; two sisters, Melina and Ariana and his three dogs, Sadie, Suki, and Gracie all of whom loved him dearly. He is also survived by his grandparents, Pete and Anna Kanelos and Carol Bumbulucz as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services for Lucas will be 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte with Fr. Andreas Houpos officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family requests that all attendees wear a mask. The service will also be livestreamed at https://www.stnektarios.org/new_webcast for those unable to attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Lucas to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, who provided him with such great care over the years. A memorial donation may also be made to Project2Heal, 7800 Providence Road S., Marvin, NC 28173, a wonderful organization from whom Lucas received two loving companion dogs. Lucas attended St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church where he loved to sing on Sundays, despite not actually being in the choir. Everyone in attendance knew when Lucas was in church. The family requests memorials may also be made in his honor to St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.
Many thanks to all who have provided exceptional and loving care to Lucas over the years, especially to Monchel, who was by his side until the end.
May His Memory Be Eternal.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
