Betty West Knox

December 21, 2021

CHARLOTTE - Betty West Knox ,100, of Sharon Towers passed away Tuesday December 21, 2021 surrounded by loving family and friends. Born March 19, 1921, the seventh of nine children, Betty was 100½ years young. She was a feisty, caring and fun mother, grandmother and friend. Her goal of living to be 100 was achieved in 2021. Those 100 years were lived in a way that was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Betty was a natural caretaker who enjoyed a 30+ year career in nursing. She grew up on a farm in Campobello, SC and earned a degree in nursing from the Spartanburg School of Nursing. Her career began at the Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Hospital where she met her future husband Ralph Lloyd Knox who was a pharmacist. After their marriage in 1952, they built a home and made a life for themselves on Wonderwood Drive.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Lloyd Knox. She is survived by her children Meredith Knox Divers (Ed), Madison Knox (Michael Baker), grandson Andrew Phiers (Gabrielle), nieces, nephews and her devoted Wonderwood family. During her 60 plus years on Wonderwood Drive, “B” was known for her fierce independence, warm smile, quick wit, love of Carolina basketball and Panthers football. But most of all she will be remembered for her pearls of wisdom, “time and patience” being her favorite.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the compassionate staff and caretakers for their loving care of Betty at Waltonwood on Randolph and Sharon Towers.

A Celebration of a life well lived will be held on January 6, 2022, at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 1:00 PM.   The service will also be available for online viewing on the Trinity Presbyterian church website. Masks will be required at the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3115 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.

A life well lived is definitely true. Sweet, warm and welcoming is how I can characterize “B”. May you rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father for eternity, while the angels are singing. The heavens are brighter. You’re one more sweet Mother the heavens have embraced. Peace be with you always.
