Roger Wayne Walters

CHARLOTTE – Roger Wayne Walters entered the eternal heavens on the morning of Monday, December 13, 2021. His precious life began December 15, 1947, the eighth child to the late Robert E. Lee Walters and Bertha Hayes Walters of Fairmont, NC.

Roger graduated from Fairmont High School in 1966. After high school he served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 and was awarded the Expert Infantry Badge. He began his working career with Biltmore Dairies in Charlotte, and later operated his own vending service for 40 years, serving Gaston County until he retired in 2017. He was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, Past Master of West Gate Masonic Lodge #738, West Gate Order of Eastern Star #343, Oasis Shrine Temple, and Oasis Roadrunners. He enjoyed participating in the parades, racing the streets in his little yellow minicar, and promoting the Shriners Hospitals for Children. For many years, Roger was the leader of the Westerly Hills Community Crime Watch and CMPD Freedom Division Advisory Council.

His favorite pastime was camping with family and friends, yard work, and working on projects with the Baptist Men’s Ministry at Pritchard Memorial.

Roger is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pamela Bass Walters; brothers, Lacy Walters and his wife, Blenda of Charlotte, Paul Walters of Fairmont, NC, Ronnie Walters and his wife, Carol of Gastonia, NC; sisters, Sara Bass of Fairmont, NC, Betty Kirby of Mullins, SC, and Margaret Richardson of Lumberton, NC and many special nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, Guthrie Walters of Lumberton, NC, and sister, Geraldine Walters of Fairmont, NC. Roger was very grateful to his devoted family and friends.

A service to celebrate the life of Roger will be held at 11 o’clock, Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Pritchard at Southend. The family kindly requests all attendees wear a mask at the church.

    Dear Pam, the Maros family sends deepest condolences. Roger has always been a great person with such a big heart. He was always willing to help out with anything for us no matter what. I miss going to the back gate where I would see you guys together enjoying the beautiful days on the swinging chair. I enjoyed countless conversations we had there as well. So many moments shared with you guys that will always be remembered. Pam please do not hesitate to call us for anything. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
