Edwin (Ed) Pair

November 28, 2021

CHARLOTTE – Edwin (Ed) Keith Pair went to be with his Lord and Savior November 28, 2021, while surrounded and comforted by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 16, 1960, in Concord, North Carolina to Lacie Louise and Hardy Linwood Pair, Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Linwood Pair.

Ed graduated from Concord High School in 1979 and was proud to have been a “Concord H.S. Spider”. He graduated Cum Laude in mathematics and computer science from UNCC and was the first in his family to graduate from college. While at UNCC, he was selected by IBM for their work/study program, which proved to be the catalyst for his very successful career. During his 19 years with IBM, Ed earned the position of Senior Systems Analyst and was continually recognized for his leadership development skills. Ed deeply treasured the meaningful relationships from IBM up to the very end.

He then moved to TIAA-CREF for the next 14 years as a program manager. He achieved certifications including PMP (Project Management Professional) and a Six Sigma green belt. His early retirement was short-lived as he transitioned to Wells Fargo in 2016, where he joined as a Technology Project Manager in Information and Cyber Security. Most recently, he was Project Manager for Privileged Session Manager. He loved sharing his knowledge and experience, freely giving his time and mentorship to others. Ed had a passion for helping team members and he was greatly respected and appreciated for his wisdom and skills that led to team successes.

Ed had many interests and talents, including golf, where he was a member of the Hole in One club. He loved his golf buddies and relished many fond memories of their golf trips together. Another passion was his love of travel with his wife Barbara, where they were always up for new adventures, traveling with family and meeting new friends.

Ed truly lived with a zest for life whether mentoring others and watching them succeed, teaching Sunday School and serving God in many ways, his pure enjoyment of music, cheering on the Panthers, or telling a good joke. He encompassed the graces of life…selfless, big-hearted, and joyful. He will live forever in our hearts as a wonderful and giving husband, father, stepfather, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his wife Barbara, Ed is survived by son Patrick Pair (Mary Anne), stepsons Colin and Davis Stewart, sister Janice Hinson, nieces and nephews Wendy Kennedy, Andrew Sims, Sherry Proctor, Todd Hinson, Gary Shannon Pair, Amy Benge, Kristi Pair, and great-nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in the Francis Chapel of Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: Moments of Hope Church, 4500 Cameron Valley Parkway, Suite 400, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28211.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC; 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

    Uncle Ed
Your service was absolutely beautiful! . From the songs sang, your friends (colleagues, golf buddies) speaking about just how good of a person, friend you were & how you always talked about Concord where you were from. The best of times always lead back to the home place of growing up.
The picture slide show with some favorite songs playing, and Patrick reading the poem & talking about how you were the best Dad. We all know how much you loved your son & how proud you were of him. You would have been so proud to hear him. During the service, the Pastor had us to pause, reflect for a moment on a memory we had of you. The one memory I'll forever cherish is knowing how much love & fun our family had back in the "good ole days" Remembering how much we laughed, were together all the time. Church & at home. How you were more like a brother to Wendy & I than an Uncle. You were in our lives from the beginning & always making us laugh. I loved you my whole life & it was genuine! I am so happy to know I never had a cross word & always respected you. I enjoyed just being around you, for the good times, laughs & love - nothing else!
You will forever be my Uncle Boo-Boo!
I am thankful for the talks, the texts, your smile, your jokes, your pranks, the countless fun times (movies all the way back to seeing Star Wars, Concerts Elton John being the Fav, parties, dinners, trips & so much more - including having Patrick & Amber so close together)
& all the times you made us laugh so hard! I am most thankful to know you were ready to go home. Although my heart was broken into finding out you had cancer, knowing how much pain you were in, I would just cry & pray constantly for you, not wanting to lose you but not wanting you to suffer....
You had told me, when God was ready for you, you were ready to go. You also said, you can't take a penny with you & all that matters is that your heart is right. In the end, all it is, is you and the Lord. You fought the fight & on 11/28 you won the victory when God said, come home my son, your work on earth is done. You are now pain & worry free. Where time doesn't matter anymore!
I'm thankful to have had you for almost 52 yrs as my Uncle. I am proud of the person you were. Smart, caring, giving, humble, loving, hard working family man & friend to so many. But never boastful & never forgetting where you came from.
I will miss you & love you forever!
Thank you for loving me and my girls.
Til we meet again in Heaven... It's not goodbye, just see ya later.
Reunited in Paradise with the family circle. Rejoicing & praising Jesus for eternity ❤ I Can Only Imagine!

I came across this news. Very sorry to hear. I grew up in Concord near him and we were good friends early in High School. We loved football. I am sure he was always a Spider. Reading these comments, I am sure he was a great guy. I have very funny memories of him in school. He talked for two days about seeing an Elvis concert in Charlotte. I moved to Greensboro. My thoughts are with all the family.

Ed, I truly enjoyed working as a team member with you at TIAA and genuinely cherished our long talks, laughing at your jokes, comparing notes on "growing up in a Mill town" and most of all being your friend. We could talk for hours and have the best time. Everyone who crossed your path said, Ed Pair is such a wonderful and genuine person. You made an indelible impact in many lives. May God rest your soul my friend.
Barbara, may your memories of Ed comfort you during this difficult time.

After many years of working together at IBM, (Tommy), we created a long lasting friendship. In remembrance of the many golf trips with the golf crew, the basketball teams we coached, the parties and innocent “trouble” we used to get into, we had a great time. Together, we cherished the birth of Patrick, and the joy you had at having a Son! Ed, you will be missed, and will be forever in our hearts. May you RIP; until meet again our friend. God bless your entire family.
