Frank Lodwick Schrimsher

November 28, 2021

CHARLOTTE – Frank Lodwick Schrimsher, 86, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021. Born in Orlando, FL on July 20, 1935, Frank moved to Charlotte, NC as a young child.

He attended Central High School and matriculated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1957.  Frank graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1960 and opened his practice with Robert L. Lindsey Jr., with whom he practiced law for 60 years.

Frank served his church and community throughout his life.  As a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, he served in numerous capacities, including as senior warden on the vestry, lay reader, choir member and chalice bearer.  Upon the closing of St. Andrew’s, Frank joined St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.  He was a charter member of the Sharon Civitan Club where he held many positions, including the offices of president, vice president, and secretary. As part of his legal practice, Frank served for 20 years in the role of Public Administrator for Mecklenburg County.  He also volunteered his time and energy to counseling young lawyers through the Mecklenburg County Bar’s mentoring program.

He had a wonderful mind.  Frank could solve any crossword puzzle in record time, and in pen no less.  There is no United States President he could not discuss in detail and few state capitals he had not visited.  His Christmas cheese biscuits were legendary, and his silver-dollar pancakes melted in your mouth.  Frank’s dimpled smile, along with 7-Up and bourbon with orange peel, set the mood for many family gatherings.

He wished to be remembered by the following quote he offered as a reflection on his life: “I have lived; I have loved the Lord my God and my family and friends.  My family and friends know my accomplishments and my failures. Until we meet again, to God be the Glory.”

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Berry Schrimsher; three children, Brain Scott Schrimsher and his wife, Margaret G., Nadia Shawn Williams and her husband, George P., and Ashley Schwartz.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, George Patteson Williams IV, Benjamin Dean Williams, Lucas Schrimsher Williams, Ann Berry Schrimsher, Mary Shepherd Schrimsher, Rebecca Alise Schwartz and Jacob Benjamin Schwartz.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Thomas Schrimsher and Marion M. Schrimsher; brother, Virgil Thomas Schrimsher Jr., and grandson, Franklin Snow Schrimsher.

A funeral service for Frank will be 11:00 AM on Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte.  The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service outside the church.  Interment will be private at Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered in Frank’s memory to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 1510 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or The Salvation Army or a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Frank was one of the nicest people I have ever met.
He was also one of the quickest wits I know. I wish I had done a better job of staying in touch with him after he retired.
    My sympathies to his family.
