Frances Elaine Clontz

November 2, 2021

Ms. Frances Elaine Clontz, 68, of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

She was born September 24, 1953 in Charlotte, the daughter of the late William Donald Clontz and Frances Simpson Clontz.  Laine is a graduate of Peace College and earned her BA and MSW degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, of which she was an avid basketball and football fan.

She had over 45 years of extensive experience in the social work field working with children including residential treatment, group homes, therapeutic foster care and family foster care.  She held positions ranging from child care worker, Treatment Unit Supervisor and Executive Vice President before establishing her own foster care agency in 2006, Carolina Family Connections.  Through her work and her passion for children she was able to help countless children feel loved and cared for.

While Laine had no biological children, she treated her nieces and nephews as her own and she never let them go without. Her door was always open for sleep-overs and she always brought back souvenirs for them from her summer trips.  That thoughtfulness carried over to her love for her great nieces and nephews in the form of holiday themed treats, hand-painted pillowcases, birthday gifts and more. Her selfless nature and fierce loyalty that made her such a successful social worker is also what made her an amazing Aunt.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, in the Francis Chapel at Myers Park United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Nancy Watson.

Survivors include two sisters, Suzanne C. Coddington and her husband, William I. Coddington, and Amy C. Honour and her husband Robert E. Honour of Charlotte; eight nieces and nephews, Barrett C. Morris and her husband, Benjamin Morris of Raleigh, Inslee Coddington and his wife, Elizabeth Coddington of Atlanta, GA, Marjorie C. Rochford and her husband, Kevin Rochford, of New York, NY, Jonathan Honour and his wife, Ashley Honour, Hannah H. Grant and her husband, James Grant, Simpson B. Elaine holds my fond remembrance as a Myers Park High School classmate & Eastover Elementary & neighborhood friend & playmate. I believe we shared kindergarten & preschool together also. Her witness among us is not lost, but endures. May Elaine enter into our Creator’s perfect rest, complete in the joy that surpasses all understanding. -BruceChapman, Charlotte
