Serafim Apostolos Nasios

October 16, 2021

CHARLOTTE – Serafim Apostolos Nasios, lovingly known as “Mike,” fell asleep unto the Lord on Saturday, October 16, 2021.  He was born on July 17, 1940 in Viniani, Evrytania, Greece to the late Apostolos and Eirini (Kaltsis) Nasios.

Mike endured many hardships as a child after losing his father at the age of six during the Greek Civil War. His mother became the sole provider of her family and devoted her life to her only child.  As a teenager, Mike moved to Karpenisi where he lived for some time. Later, he moved to Athens where he worked at his uncle's local shop before serving in the Greek army. He married his loving wife, Maria Kakavitsas Nasios on January 7, 1973 before immigrating to America. They briefly lived in Knoxville, TN before settling in Charlotte in 1982, where he worked in the restaurant industry.

Mike was an avid sports fan, rooting for his beloved Boston Celtics, Miami Dolphins, and Olympiakos Greek soccer team.  He enjoyed grilling, his cars, and his Greek news channels.  Mike especially loved to spend time at the local kafenio where he enjoyed his coffee, played a friendly card game, and made lifelong friends. After retiring, he enjoyed frequent visits to Greece to visit family and friends and of course, his beloved village of Viniani.

Mike is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maria and his three loving children, Apostolos “Laki” Nasios, Irene Chamis and her husband, Odysseus and Katerina “Tina” Nasios.  He also leaves behind his three beloved grandchildren, Mary, John and Lily, who will miss their pappou dearly.

Although we will all miss him so very much, we take great comfort in knowing he is reunited with his parents, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Fr. Vasileios Tsourlis officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.  Masks are required for those in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Mike to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Attn: Chapel Furniture Fund, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or Panaghia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park.

May His Memory Be Eternal.
