Alta Lodahl Eger

October 10, 2021

Alta Eger passed away this week at Matthews Glen.  Born in Montana in 1920, she moved to Minnesota with parents Carl and Elizabeth and brother Gale. In 1940, Alta relocated herself to Washington, DC where she worked for the Department of the Navy. Shortly after World War II, while at work, she met Robert Eger. Married in 1947, they enjoyed 69 years together with their two children (Elizabeth Rogerson and David (Tricia)), four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In 1963, Alta and family moved from northern Virginia to Charlotte. After joining St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Alta volunteered to be the church’s visitor for congregation members unable to attend services. She held this role for decades, eventually adding the responsibility of bringing in new members.

Alta is predeceased by husband Robert, brother Gale, son-in-law Andrew Rogerson and great grandson Austin Hosmun.

Gifts may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or charities of donor’s choice.

Memorial service plans are pending.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC; 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

My husband, Klenke and I knew Bob and Alta as neighbors in Dunwoody, Ga and members of The Lutheran Church of The Redeemer in Atlanta, GA. Alta was a delightful person, so thoughtful and caring. We have missed she and Bob for many years since they left Dunwoody. We just learned of her passing this week of February 2022.
