Jeanne Pappas Karras

August 17, 2021

CHARLOTTE - Jeanne Pappas Karras, 74, of Denver, NC died August 17, 2021, at Atrium Health – CMC. Jeanne was born January 13, 1947, daughter of Cora Gregor Pappas and the late, Angelo George Pappas. She grew up in Greensboro before moving to Charlotte at 14 years of age and attended King’s College after graduating from Myers Park High School. Jeanne was the office manager for her husband for many years, the late, Harry G. Karras, Ph.D. who passed away in 2016.

Jeanne will always be remembered for her loving and kind spirit, and her heart was like a warm ray of sunshine which lights up even the darkest day. She loved people with a pure and unconditional love, and all who knew her were drawn to her charming personality. She was a positive influence for so many, and her grace and wisdom will be dearly missed. She deeply loved the Lord our God with all her heart and with all of her soul and with all of her strength, and she loved her neighbor as herself. Jeanne was truly the good Samaritan, always willing to help someone in need. But Jeanne was much more than a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, or a friend, she is a child of God with a radiant spirit who was sent to earth to bless us, and to be blessed, and she has returned to the loving arms of our heavenly Father. Words cannot fully express the depth of our loss, but we will forever give glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit now and forever to the ages of ages. Jeanne, may your memory be eternal, and we will hold fast to you in our hearts forever.

Jeanne is survived by her mother, Cora Gregor Pappas of Gastonia, NC; her son, Dr. Dean Karras and his wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Christopher, Eleni, Sabrina and Tony, all of Wilmington, NC; sister, Marilyn Dean and her husband, Michael of Gastonia; nephews, Billy Dean and his wife, Joyce of Gastonia and Evan Karagias and his wife, Jennifer of Gastonia; and her goddaughters, Patsy Ciechon of Virginia Beach and Emily Ferguson of Charlotte.

The family would also like to thank the pallbearers; Jeanne’s nephew, Evan Karagias and his three handsome sons, Luke, Zack and Matthew, and her dear friends, Michael Cunningham and Eric Stevens.

A trisagion and visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Dearest Dr. Karras and family and Marilyn and family:

My sincerest condolences to all of you in the loss of your beautiful mother, grandmother and sister. I consider myself blessed just to have met and known her, if only for awhile. What a pleasant person, all the time! She was a pleasure to be around and it was always so nice to see her come to visit the office. In the days, weeks, months to come, know that my prayers will be with you all. When you look up and see the sunshine, you will think of her. When you see that warm, friendly person that makes everyone smile, you will think of her. When you look in the mirror you will think of her as well, because you too are such kind and caring souls, just like she was. She was SO proud of her son, Dr. Dean Karras and grandchildren, and you could see it on her face. It lit up when she saw your face(s), and likewise, yours lit up as well. Beauty, kindness and grace, all around her, and it showed it everything! Her actions, the way she spoke to people and most importantly the way she raised her family. Again, my prayers are with you all.
