Robert Morgan

August 10, 2021

Charlotte- Robert “Bob” Morgan, 85, of Rock Hill, SC passed away on August 10, 2021 at his home after a courageous battle with Leukemia.  Bob was born on July 4, 1936 in Franklin, NC to Robert and Helen (Dalton) Morgan.

Bob grew up in Macon County, NC and attended Franklin High School before setting off for Berea College in KY.   In 1958 he joined the Air Force and served at numerous bases along the west coast.  After his service, Bob attended the University of Georgia in Athens where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration. In 1963, he began his career in accounting by joining the firm Main LaFrentz, in Atlanta.

He met his wife of 54 years, Kay Franks Morgan in Atlanta. They were married at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church in Savannah, GA.  A loving husband and father, Bob and Kay raised their family in Marietta, GA where they were active in their church, their neighborhood and the Wheeler High School booster club.

Bob continued his accounting career as an audit Partner with the firm that eventually became KPMG until 1989.  He then joined the Rock Hill Telephone Company, now known as Comporium.  This brought Bob and Kay to Rock Hill, SC where they enjoyed being active members in the community and developed dear friends. Bob served as the VP of Accounting at Comporium until his retirement in 2007.

In retirement, Bob loved keeping up with the news, and playing golf; but mostly enjoyed the time with good friends he developed from those rounds. He relaxed by spending time on his garden or laughing with his grandchildren. An avid reader and lifelong Atlanta Braves fan he lovingly answered to Bob, Dad, and Pops throughout his life. Bob was known for his calm and steady demeanor, integrity, humor, and his kind and generous heart.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kay Franks Morgan, daughter Jayne Morgan Watson, son Jim Morgan, daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Meyer) Morgan and son-in-law, Brian Watson. Also, by grandchildren Harrison Morgan, Nate Morgan, Bennett Watson, and Morgan Watson. His niece Jill (Morgan) Bell and husband Ralph Bell, great nephew, and great nieces, as well as brother-in-law, Dimitri Franks and wife, Pat Franks, and a host of dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Helen Morgan, his brother Dale Morgan, and his sister-in-law, Blanche (Smith) Morgan.

The funeral will be on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow on August 18, 2021 at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
