Robert McElveen Walker
August 1, 2021
CHARLOTTE - With the deepest sorrow, we announce that Robert McElveen Walker, age 20, a cherished son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend tragically lost his life in a car accident on Sunday, August 1, 2021 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Although his time with us was not long enough, Robert lived a full life throughout his twenty years. Born and raised in Charlotte, Robert graduated from Myers Park High School in 2020. He was a rising sophomore at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
Supremely confident in his abilities from an early age, Robert started his own lawn maintenance business at 12-years-old with a trailer filled with equipment he had bought with his own money. The lack of a driver’s license left Robert undeterred. He simply enlisted his mother to drive him to the jobsites because he would never consider letting his customers down.
Robert loved the great outdoors. He was an accomplished sportsman as a member of the Rocky Creek Clay Dusters. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting most of all. He started riding horses at age seven during his summers in Middleburg, Virginia with his beloved “Ganny.” There, in the fields of Virginia horse country, Robert developed a love for adventure that marked his days.
Beyond his love of God’s creation, Robert enjoyed many other creative and imaginative outlets. He might be found working on his truck or riding an ATV - both of which revealed his passion for Mrs. “C’s” Auto Lab. On weekends, he roamed the woods with his trusted Labrador “Hunter.”
His wide group of friends knew no boundaries of age, race, or class. One day would find him hunting with his grandfather’s 75-year-old business partner and the next would have him on the lake with his wide-ranging group of buddies. Seldom was the day that Robert would fail to touch the ones he loved. His daily calls to “Sha Sha” and “Gra Gra” were the highlight of their day.
We are so appreciative of the overwhelming support from our family and friends during this difficult time. While we mourn his loss, we will be forever grateful for and treasure all the incredible memories that Robert bestowed on each and every one of us.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church at 501 North Tyron Street in Charlotte. For those who cannot attend but would like to be part of the celebration, the service will stream via the church’s website at: charlottefirst.org.
Robert is survived by his mother and father, Gray and Geordie Walker; brother, Randolph “Randy” Walker; grandparents, Sally and Robert McElveen; aunt and uncle, Sarah and David Hendrick; aunt, Emmie Walker; uncle, Tommy Keratzes; cousins, William Hendrick, Sally Hendrick, Matthew Savin, Charlotte Savin, and Lily Savin; and mentor, JS Lyles.
Robert joins his beloved grandmother, Louise McLean, and grandfather, Randy Walker.
To honor his legacy of caring for others, we are establishing the Robert Walker Tutoring Fund for Students with Dyslexia. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fund at 8500 Sardis Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28270 will be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC; 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

While it has been many years since I and several teachers at the First Presbyterian Weekday School have been a part of Robert’s life, I still have such wonderful memories of our time with Robert and Randolph at the Weekday School. Robert was a precious little boy in those early years, and my heart is broken over the loss of your special son who loved the outdoors, enjoyed life to the fullest but was tragically taken way too soon. Please know how much you are in the hearts and prayers of so many as you experience the worst grief that a parent can endure. May God comfort you during this tragic time and give you peace.
Love,

Dear Walker Family, we are saddened to hear of Robert’s passing. He was a delight to have working on our crew this summer here in Bozeman. Along with being an extremely hard worker, Rob always made the Jobsite a fun place with his stories and comments. We were blessed to have known him and have him as a co-worker and friend. We will miss him and we are all sorry for your loss.
