Debra “Debby” Lynn Coles February 3, 1963 – August 9, 2022
Debby Coles, 59, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 9. She was born on February 3, 1963, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to the late Zachary Anderson Coles, Jr. and Lyneen (Lynn) McCurdy Campbell of Stokesdale, North Carolina. A devoted Tar Heel, Debby was a 1981 graduate of Grimsley High School, a 1984 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and a 1988 graduate of The UNC School of Medicine. In her first career, she practiced medicine in Charlotte and took pride in caring holistically for her patients. In her second career as the Business and Operations Manager at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church, she was able to combine her deep faith, administrative skills, and love of helping others to support the congregation in living into their mission. Debby was an active member of SouthPark Church and advocated for their new mixed-use campus. She also loved playing handbells and creating cards in which she could express her love and care for others.
In addition to her father, Debby was preceded in death by her sister, Cathleen Coles Rasnick. She is survived by her daughter, Mei Coles, whom she lovingly adopted from China; her mother and stepfather, Lyneen (Lynn) and Ed Campbell; sister Amy Coles, brother Robert Coles, and stepsister Sherry Johnson; her bonus “parents”, Ken and Linda Roth; her nieces and nephews; and many friends who provided her love and support.
A celebration of her life will be held at SouthPark Church (3151 Apex Dr Suite 100, Charlotte) on Saturday, August 13 at 10:00am. A time of visitation will follow immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either of the two churches which she loved deeply, SouthPark Church (3151 Apex Dr Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28211) or Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church (8801 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210).

When I live in North Carolina, i worked at CMC and she was my doctor for several years. Her kindness, her love and her caring manner was the best. She took care of me as a patient but more as a friend. She laughed with me in good times and cried with me in bad times. She was and is the best doctor and friend i had. She will me missed.

Debra Coles helped chaplains at CMC (now Atrium) understand the importance of faith in supporting patients who faced illness and injury—combining her medical knowledge with faith. I send my sympathies to her family and friends.
