Mary Cathryn Underwood Dibble

September 29, 2020

Dallas, TX - Mary Cathryn Underwood Dibble, 91, of Dallas, Texas went to her eternal home peacefully on September 29, 2020. Mary was born in Russellville, Alabama in 1929, the only child of Edgar and Bertha Jane Underwood. She grew up in Russellville surrounded by numerous aunts and uncles, graduated from Birmingham Southern University, and then went on to get a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas. Mary married her beloved husband Parkes Cadman Dibble in 1958, whom she met in the young singles Sunday School class at Highland Park United Methodist Church (HPUMC). They were devoted members of HPUMC for over 62 years, raising their family there, serving there, and enjoying many life-long friendships.

Mary was a gifted artist in many ways making this world a more beautiful place. She played the piano for her entire life, was a devoted music teacher, owned and operated Mullican Art Supply in Snyder Plaza, and one of her greatest joys was to be one of four members who played the 48 bell Porter Memorial Carillon at HPUMC. For Mary, “music was like praying twice,” expressing the beauty and love of God.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. She is survived by her children Parkes Jr, (Leslie); Edgar, (Renee); and Cathryn Jones, (Ron). She was so proud of her seven grandchildren; Hollister Dibble, Hannah Dibble Palmer (Reid), Susannah Dibble, Colin Dibble, Jake Dibble, Reagan Jones and Caroline Jones.

A memorial service to bear witness to the Resurrection and to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday October 12 in the sanctuary at Highland Park United Methodist Church.

The family suggests any remembrances be made in her memory to the Porter Memorial Carillon fund at HPUMC or to Something Good Radio.
