Evelyn Harris Griffith

October 13, 2019

Charlotte – Evelyn H. Griffith, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday, October 13, 2019. She was born August 10, 1929 to the late Franklin and Fannie Soots Harris.

Evelyn loved photography and modeled clothing for an uptown department store. She was simply a wonderful human being who loved everyone. All who knew her, loved her in kind.  She had made many life-long friends that were the result of her taking care of children while their parents worked. They all stayed in touch even after the kids grew up and went on to lead productive lives.

Evelyn was delighted when her family came to visit and went to great lengths to ensure they were well fed and taken care of. She loved sharing memories with them and would talk for hours about life, family, and religion. All visits were accompanied by humongous amounts of Chinese food, along with her own fixings.

She gained much of her strength through God when she began incurring long-term debilitating illnesses.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Rick, Fran, and Lynne; grandsons, Rick, Jr., Brad, and Ben; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Riley, Aria, Dylan, Alex, Isabella, and Jessie. She is also survived by her nieces, Winky Rush, Denise Rush, and Mary Rush; nephew, Billy Rush; and grand-nephew, Bobby Rush.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James of whom she was a devoted wife and caregiver; brothers, Bill, Theodore, and Arthur Rush; and sister, Stacy Harris.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the masoleum chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212.  The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service in the chapel.  The inurnment will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549 or a charity of your choice.
