Estill "Al" Alvey
February 28, 2026
CHARLOTTE - Estill Alvey, known to most as “Al,” and affectionately by his family as “Shorty,” was born on December 1, 1941, in Louisville, Kentucky. Son of Albert and Hattie Alvey and the brother of Ray and Mel, he went to Flaget High School and Bellarmine University where he played basketball and ran track. Al moved to New York City where he had a career in finance and served his country in the US Army. The Alveys relocated to Garden City where Al loved spending time with his friends and golfing. Throughout his life, Al was known for his integrity, his steadfast nature, quiet strength, and a personality that left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Al passed peacefully in Charlotte, North Carolina, on February 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. Al is survived by his wife, Juana, his son Scott, daughter‑in‑law Brantley, and his beloved granddaughters, Liv and Maggie, who called him “Gringo”.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, in support of ongoing research and the pursuit of improved treatments for Parkinson’s disease.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
