James Truesdel

James Douglas Truesdel, 80, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 27, 2016, after a short battle with lymphoma. His strong will, unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of family and friends carried him through the treatments and sickness.

Douglas was born on May 7, 1935, in Salisbury, North Carolina, to the late James Bryan & Viola Truesdel. He was raised in Dukeville, the third of five children. In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his brother Bryon Truesdel and great granddaughter Grace Abigail Sanderson. After graduating from Spencer High School, class of 1953, Douglas continued his education at Clemson University, graduating in 1958, with a BA in Industrial Management. After college, he married Jane Buie of Spencer, NC. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962 and in 1962 he started his 30-year career with Duke Power, working in various regional offices and retiring as Office Manager of Central Division in Charlotte.

Douglas was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, where he enjoyed being a part of the adult choir and the Encore Singers. He served as a deacon and on various committees and loved working in Vacation Bible School.

His community service included the Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, Business Men's Club, and Habitat for Humanity. As a member and former president of the Duke Energy retiree club, he participated in Operation Christmas Child Project, Christmas Bureau, Salvation Army and other local projects.

Following retirement, he and Jane enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Douglas' interests in life included his family, Clemson athletics, fishing and camping.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 57 years, Jane Buie Truesdel; two sons, Michael Truesdel and his wife, Wanda of Concord, NC and Kevin Truesdel of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Daniel Sanderson and his wife, Michelle and Melissa Bruce; and six great-grandchildren - Alexis, Madison, Danielle, Isabelle, Emilee, and Abel; three sisters, Geraline Shoaf of Salisbury, NC, Eloise Turner of Salisbury, NC, Jenny Powell of Camden, SC; sister-in-law, Lillian Truesd-el of Hernando, FL and nieces and nephews.

The services to celebrate his life will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Providence Baptist Church, with Dr. David Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM in Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery, 200 Charles Street, Spencer, NC.
