Nathaniel Owings Beasley MATTHEWS - Nathaniel Owings Beasley, age 81, passed away March 29, 2016. Born April 18, 1934, in Murfreesboro, TN, he was the son of Nathaniel Craig Beasley and Sara Williams Beasley. Nat graduated from Murfreesboro Central High School in 1952. Following graduation from The University of Mississippi in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he served three years in the US Navy in the Atlantic Fleet. In 1959, he began active employment with E.I. DuPont in Old Hickory, TN; Circleville, Ohio; Florence, SC; Wilmington, DE; and Charlotte, NC. Following retirement, he was able to devote more time to woodworking and gardening. He was an active and dedicated member of Providence United Methodist Church, serving on several committees and boards. Nat was also a long-time member of the Wesley Men's Sunday School class. Nat was a Stephen Minister. Nat is survived by Patti Jones Beasley, his wife of 53 years; daughters, Sara A. Beasley (Nina), Celeste B. Drinkard (Scott), and son N. Craig Beasley. His family also includes his grandchildren: Katie Drinkard, Connor Drinkard, and Mesfin Beasley Eshoo. A service to celebrate Nat's life will be held at Providence United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016, with Dr. William Jeffries officiating. His family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Music Ministry, Providence United Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte NC, 28211, or to the Novant/Harris Hospice Unit, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.
