Marilyn Stacy Collins

CHARLOTTE - Marilyn Stacy Collins, 90, of Charlotte passed away on April 15, 2025. Born on February 16, 1935 in Lumberton, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Horace and Lillian Stacy. She was preceded in death by her husband Zollie Albert Collins, Jr. They were married 52 years. Marilyn is survived by her three children, Stacy Lynch and her husband Steve, Zac Collins and his wife Yvonne, & Parker Collins and his wife Susan. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brittan Lynch Locke, Thomas Lynch, Grant Collins, and Luke Collins & a great grandson, Barnes Locke. She is survived by a sister-in-law Roland Collins Elliott. Marilyn is predeceased by her siblings Horace Stacy, Louise Reams and Rosa Nash.
Marilyn graduated from Lumberton High School, attended Salem College and graduated from Flora MacDonald College where she studied Education. She and Zollie started their marriage in High Point, NC where she taught first grade. The family moved to Charlotte, NC where she taught preschool at Myers Park United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Many families have said what a gifted teacher she was and have remarked about how she made each child feel special. Marilyn had a talent for making her friends feel special too; she was a devoted and loyal friend. She had many lifelong friendships that she cherished. Numerous friends were part of the Wesley Sunday School Class at Myers Park United Methodist Church. Singing in the women's choir at church also brought much joy to Marilyn. She had a beautiful soprano voice.
Marilyn loved the beach, swimming in the ocean, sweet tea, chocolate, UNC basketball and the color blue. Most of all, she enjoyed raising her family and watching her grandchildren grow and develop. Marilyn was particularly grateful to live at Southminster in her later years. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Sabrina Parrish, Cheryl Skerlak and the entire Southminster staff.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 9 at Myers Park United Methodist Church. Visitation will immediately follow the service in Jubilee Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207 or Southminster, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
