Christina Parhas Besseas
June 11, 2024
Christina Parhas Besseas, 88, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at home on June 11, 2024.
She was born on August 29, 1935, in Levidi, Arcadia, Greece, to Theodosios and Panagiota Parhas. Christina's life exemplified love, dedication, and service.
After graduating from high school, Christina attended dressmaking and tailoring school in Athens, Greece. She excelled in her craft and eventually became an instructor, teaching others the art of sewing.
In 1958, Christina met and married her late husband, Theodore. As newlyweds, they visited Charlotte, NC, fell in love with the city, and made it their home. There, they opened and operated Teddy's Restaurant, a beloved establishment where they served delicious meals and created life-long friendships.
Christina was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she worshipped faithfully for over six decades. She was an active member of the Agia Elpis Philoptochos Society, serving on the board, chairing committees, and volunteering her time for various activities.
Christina was an avid cook and dedicated gardener, immersing herself in her garden and always tending to her flowers and plants.
Christina's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, and she took pride in her children’s accomplishments. As a grandmother, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her happiness, and she cherished the moments spent with them.
Christina was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore, and her siblings, Maria Angelopoulou, Haralambos Parhas, Prokopios Parhas, and Anastasios Parhas. She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Zehia (Anthony) of Cary, NC, and Pamela Bostian (Rocky) of Kannapolis, NC; her granddaughters, Barbara Preusse (Michael) of Charlotte, NC, and Christina Moore (Curtis) of Raleigh, NC; her great-grandchildren, Anthony and Amelia Preusse; her brother, Christos Parhas of Athens, Greece; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203. Christina's family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Christina to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Agia Elpis Philoptochos Society, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
May she rest in peace and may her memory be eternal.
