Franchaska Conswayla Quick

March 10, 2024

Franchaska Conswayla Quick died suddenly in her home on Sunday, March 10, 2024. She was born in 1976 in the small town of Cheraw, SC, was a graduate of Shaw University in Raleigh, NC, and was an avid fan of Duke University. She was a woman with a generous spirit and a big heart, who always encouraged her friends and family with love, prayers, and support.

Franchaska had an early career as a Wake County Public School teacher that was abbreviated due to a same-gender relationship and a diagnosis of partial blindness. She lived life openly, bravely, and freely, crediting pastors, friends, and a great auntie from New Jersey for affirming her on the journey of coming out as a transgender woman.

As a devout follower of Jesus and an active leader at her church, Myers Park Baptist, Franchaska was deeply beloved by all who knew her and where she will be dearly missed. She served on the Ministry of Justice and Outreach, volunteered faithfully in Vacation Bible School, Room in the Inn, and Gathering in the Harbor, and actively participated in worship and programming every time the doors were open. Her life and faith inspired the church to more fully embody the beliefs it proclaims.

In 2022, Franchaska was honored to be interviewed on Transgender Day of Visibility where she shared her story, raised awareness about the crises facing the transgender community, and spoke up for the rights of transgender people, especially those living at the intersection of race and disability.

Franchaska is preceded in death by her father Freddie Quick and her long-time service companion John Chandler Quick. She is survived by her mother Thomasena Robinson Quick, along with many loved family members and friends.

A memorial service and celebration of life will take place at Myers Park Baptist Church on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:30 AM.

Memorials in her honor can be made to Transcend Charlotte, Inc., 5855 Executive Center Drive Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28212
