CHARLOTTE – Donald Owens, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Growing up in Eastern North Carolina, Donald attended school in Walstonburg until Greene County consolidated in his senior year. He went on to further his studies at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC graduating with a degree in accounting in three academic years. Donald served his country as a member of the National Guard as an armor crewman. He eventually found his calling and dedicated many years to LB Smith Inc., where he made lasting connections and contributions to the company ultimately leading to his position of Vice President. Donald resided at Lake Norman, NC where he enjoyed boating and spending time on the lake with family and friends. After his retirement he moved to South Charlotte with his wife Renee and took pleasure in remodeling their home and caring for their yard. His passions included fishing, UNC basketball and a lifelong love of the beach.
Donald is survived by his adored spouse of 20 years, Renee Owens. He was a devoted father of three children, Donald Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Michael and his wife, Dee, and Christy and her husband, Scott and a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gordon and Kathleen Owens and dear first wife and mother of his three children Linda Norris Owens.
Donald will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty and dedication to his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Walstonburg Cemetery in Walstonburg, NC officiated by Dr. Rick Bailey. The family will receive friends at the gravesite following the service.
