Beverley Jean Kelley Davenport

January 16, 2024

CHARLOTTE-  Beverley was born to Myrle and Fred Kelley of Marietta, GA and graduated from Marietta High School.  She received degrees in vocal and piano performance from Stetson University and studied voice in Boston, MA before settling in Charlotte, NC. She worked for McCracken and Lopez for 39 years and continued to sing professionally including appearances with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and cherished performances as a “la-la girl” in Charlotte Ballet’s Nutcracker.

Known for her wit, curiosity, love of animals, hard work, and musical acumen, Beverley radiated the love of Christ in many ways, but perhaps most noticeably by serving others and supporting their endeavors. When she wasn't working or spending precious time with her son, KC, she could be found teaching children's Sunday School, leading a choir, watching a beloved child from church in a school play, or caring for ailing friends, often with KC in tow. She was always looking for ways to encourage and inspire young artists in music, performing arts, and visual arts. She was unreservedly devoted to her son and her extended family. Beverley was a beloved member of Westminster Presbyterian Charlotte and deeply cherished her community there. Beverley will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family. Beverley leaves a legacy of grace, perseverance, and excellence.   Her family rejoices that after fighting the good fight, she is now "with Christ, which is better by far."

Beverley is survived by her son KC Davenport (Chelsea); sister Peggy Kelley Holbrook (Mike); brother Bill Kelley (Karen); niece Heather Holbrook Vansant (Brian); three nephews Sean Kelley (Katrina), Eric Kelley (Susan), Joshua Holbrook (Alicia); former husband Cuthbert Davenport; 24 great nieces and nephews; and her cat, Frilly.

A service to honor Beverley's life, her faith in the gospel, and her love for Christ will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 27; beginning with her interment in the church garden at 3:30 PM followed by the service at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service at the church in Beard Hall. The service will be livestreamed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQJpOWU8GPo.

"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” - Psalm 118:24
