Joan Fisher

CHARLOTTE – Joan Fisher passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023. She was raised on a farm along with her brothers and sisters in Southampton, MA by her parents Robert and Michelina Breyer. 

Joan was a lifelong advocate who worked to improve the lives of those in need.  She was a science teacher for pregnant teenagers in Pontiac, MI.  Joan established a chapter for Fellowship in Serving Humanity (F.I.S.H) in Michigan; found jobs for those with developmental disabilities during her work with Putnam County Comprehensive Services in Indiana, and ultimately found herself as the Director of Disability Services at Cornell University.  She was incredibly humble about her work, never afraid to speak up for those she saw being mistreated or overlooked.   Joan also raised four children with her husband and was active in the United Methodist Church wherever she lived.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Fisher; her children, Patricia Hall and her husband, Doug, Robert Fisher Jr., Gregory Fisher and his wife, Rachel and Kathleen Ball and her husband, Scott; twelve grandchildren, Andrew, Colton, Caitlyn, Nick, Ashley, Matthew, Chris, Daniel, Laura, Ethan, Meredith, and Rebecca; seven great-grandchildren, Palmer, River, Connor, Ethan, Sydney, Charlotte, and Guinevere.  Also surviving are her sisters, Kay Hardy, Sally Trice and brother, Steve Breyer. 

Memorials may be offered in memory of Joan to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, 500-B Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC 28206 or the food bank of donor’s choice.
