CHARLOTTE – Christopher George Thomas Ganzert, 71, was called home on Sunday, January 8, 2023.  He was born on April 2, 1951, in Alexandria, VA.

Chris was educated in the Catholic faith attending Mount Calvary Catholic School in Forestville, Maryland.  His high school years were spent at Burroughs Junior and Oxon Hill Senior High School also in Maryland, where he lettered in football and track and field.  He graduated from Wake Forest University acquiring a Bachelor of Science degree and lettering in Rugby.  After graduation, Chris acquired his General Contractors license in North Carolina and began work in the Charlotte metropolitan area.  Chris was hired by the City of Charlotte Department of Transportation in 2009.  After a productive and enjoyable career with the Street Maintenance Division Chris retired on December 31, 2019.

Christopher is survived by his mother, Anne Gwyn Ganzert; brothers, Neal Francis Jr., Michael Martin, Jonathan Kent, Bartlett Yancey; sisters, Anne Ganzert Hayes and Lucy James Montaquila.  Also surviving are his nieces, nephews and dear friends that touched his life throughout the years.  Chris was preceded in death by his father, Neal Francis Ganzert, Sr.; grandparents, Thomas and Iola Gwyn and George and Marie Ganzert, and brother, Sean Paul Ganzert.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2023, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road in Charlotte, NC.  The inurnment will immediately follow the service in the church columbarium.  Following the inurnment, the family will receive friends in the activity center at the church.
