Martha Greene McCall

October 11, 2022

Martha Greene McCall passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at her home. A Charlotte native, she was born July 4, 1929, daughter of Hiram Greene and Fay White Greene. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Walter F. McCall. She is survived by her daughters; Fay Hamorsky and her husband, Wayne and Norva Pickett and her husband, Ed; grandchildren, Samuel Hamorsky and Jason Hamorsky and his wife, Alicia, Candice Williams and her husband, Scott, and Clare and Bess Pickett; and grandsons, Noah and Jonah Hamorsky.

Martha was an exemplary homemaker. She was an amazing seamstress, a tireless and successful gardener and gracious hostess. She knitted, crocheted, tatted and made her children’s (and grandchildren’s) clothes, as well as items for anyone who asked. She took great joy in sharing the bounty of her garden, both flowers and vegetables. For many years she welcomed family and friends to her table for home cooked meals. As a child of the Great Depression, she approached life with determination, resourcefulness, and a willingness to serve which she did quietly and with humility.

Martha was also a faithful and dedicated member of the church. She served in many roles; Circle member and leader, various positions with Women of the Church, Loaves and Fishes volunteer, homebound member visitation and willing servant for whatever needed doing.

Her family would like to thank her kind caregivers Edna Graham, Linda Jones and Rosemany Jones. They would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation for Hospice care.

In lieu of flowers gifts can be made in Martha’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region. PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.

Martha’s family takes comfort in the belief that she now experiences a peace that passes all understanding. “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge, His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91, verse 4
