Dylan Stuart Chorneau

July 29, 2021

There is a new star in the sky. Dylan Stuart Chorneau, 44, passed away at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 29, 2021.

Of all his positive attributes, and there were many, Dylan was a proud, loving, and devoted father. Whether it was playing video games with Aidan, talking to Ethan about his friends, or reading to Benny, he delighted in all aspects of fatherhood and truly valued his children’s insights and perspectives. It was evident to anyone who ever had the pleasure of chatting with him that his greatest love was his children. He was honored beyond measure to have been entrusted with the care of those three hearts.

In both his personal and professional circles, Dylan was known as a consummate and creative artist. He had a passion for beauty, technique, craftsmanship, and quality design. As a photographer, he specialized in medium format photography and printing, chronicling much of the Charlotte arts and music community throughout the early 2000s. However, his first and foremost passion was oil painting. As a painter, Dylan employed the Old World techniques of the Dutch Masters, constantly seeking to broaden his knowledge via research, experimentation, and the slow and careful work of learning. For all his skill and talent, he remained a curious and driven student of the arts throughout his life. Dylan had a unique and careful eye that allowed him to capture both the spirit and humanity of his subjects.

Dylan will be lovingly remembered as a person you could always look to for a kind word, compassionate insight, or a patient ear in times of trouble. He valued his relationships above all else and always made time to be with the people he loved. While his family and friends are devastated by this untimely loss, Dylan leaves behind a legacy of unparalleled beauty and unconditional love. Through both the art he created and the hearts he touched, he has left the world a more beautiful place.  His gentle presence touched the lives of all who knew him. None of us will ever be the same.

Dylan is survived by: his children, Aidan, Ethan and Benjamin Chorneau and their mother, Kristen; his mother, Beth Delaney and stepfather David Delaney; his father, Raymond Chorneau and partner Ruth Hunter; brother, Nick Chorneau; sister-in-law Emma and nephew Coulter; brother, Noah Chorneau; stepbrother Jack Delaney and partner Farinaz Safaei; stepsister, Hannah and Alex Rudd and nieces Lillian and Sadie; grandparents, Lyn Coulter and Ken and Floss Coulter; uncles and aunts, Peter and Nancy Chorneau, Tom Chorneau,  Joe Chorneau, and Dick Burroughs, Bryan and Terri Coulter, Rich Coulter, Dennis and Dawn Coulter, Jeff Coulter and partner Deborah Saron; cousins, Darcy Burroughs and partner Kelly Underwood, Charlotte Biggs  and Alice Chorneau, and Janice, Wendi, and Milo Coulter.
