Neal Wayne Chewning

March 26, 2024

CHARLOTTE – Neal Wayne Chewning died suddenly on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.  He was a man with a very sharp wit and a dry sense of humor, who was beloved by his family and friends. Neal was born in Dekalb County, GA.  He lost his father Paul at an early age, and was raised by his mother, Sandra, a church organist along with his sister, Melody.

Neal graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in electrical engineering.  He had an early career working with Contemporary Christian Music artists that exposed him to the hypocrisy of the industry.  After a career with Netflix he spent ten years as an EMT in Atlanta, Spartanburg, and Greenville; this was his proudest career achievement and he often said he knew he was a good EMT.  Following his time in EMS he was manager at Amazon.  Most recently, Neal was a manager in the corporate offices of Jason’s Deli.  His coworkers said he was easy to get along with, always had their back and was a great friend.

Neal met his wife Carrie in 2009 and created a beautiful life together graced by their friends and many beloved dogs, Molly, Jessie, Oliver, Hannah, and Toby.

One of Neal’s proudest titles was “Uncle” and one of his favorite pastimes was playing with his nephews.  Neal also loved heavy metal rock music, especially his favorite bands RUSH and GHOST.  He was an amateur guitarist and treasured the guitars given to him by his wife.  Neal enjoyed traveling to the beach for their yearly trip, playing video games, watching hilarious television shows, and hanging out with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Carrie Veal; his father-in-law, Wayland; sister-in-law, Mandy; brother-in-law, Jeremy; nephews, George and James, and his niece, Mary.

Services will be private.

Memorials may be offered in memory of Neal to RAIN (https://carolinarain.org/) or Myers Park Baptist Church (https://myersparkbaptist.org/ ).

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Carrie I am so sorry. I believe but I don’t know a lot about God like some people do. I lost my wife a few years ago and there’s one thing I do know. God will give you the strength to endure all things-even the death of a spouse. I’m praying for you
