Jane Ann Hoag Brandt

WAXHAW – Jane Ann Brandt, 83, passed away in Waxhaw, NC on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home surrounded by her children.  She battled Multiple Myeloma cancer for the past 3 years.  She was born in Tekonsha, MI on August 6, 1940, to the late Leslie Duane and Ruth V. Hoag. 

Jane grew up in East Leroy, MI and graduated from Athens High School in 1958.  She continued her education at Western Michigan University earning a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.  In the early years of being a dietician, she served patients at Marshall Manor nursing home and Oaklawn hospital both in Marshall, MI.  She spent the rest of her career as a dietician in the Battle Creek Health systems, retiring in 2006.

Jane married her husband Wesley R. Brandt on April 11, 1964.  They were happily married for fifty-five years before his passing in September of 2019 and had two children together.  Wes and Jane were active, long-term members of the former Birchwood United Methodist Church.  They began attending Chapel Hill United Methodist Church prior to moving to North Carolina. 

Over the years before leaving Battle Creek, Jane enjoyed ceramics, quilting, serving at her church, the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and the Lakeview Neighborhood Food Pantry.  While living in Charlotte, NC she was active in her church, New City Church, and the Dorchester community where she lived.

Jane is survived by her children, Susan Little and her husband, Jon of Waxhaw, NC, David Brandt and his wife, Allison of Stanley, NC; grandchildren, Jacob and Haley Little, and great-grandchildren, Trenton and Lylah Ruth Richardson.  She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Hoag of Pascagoula, MS; sisters-in-law, Pat Hoag and Anne Brandt along with several nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held this summer at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 157 Chapel Hill Dr., Battle Creek, MI 49015.
