DeWitt Walker King, IV passed away peacefully December 12, 2023 at his home in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

DeWitt was born May 25, 1987 in Charlotte, NC to his parents Debra and DeWitt King, III.  DeWitt was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a major in philosophy.

DeWitt was adept at problem solving which led him to a career in Information Technology upon graduation. DeWitt worked for Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, LLP, Castlight Health, Inc., and most recently for Costco Logistics.

It was during his time with Castlight that he met his lifemate, Monica Christoffels.  Monica transferred from Castlight’s Oregon office to the Charlotte office and she and DeWitt became friends, then more than friends, and finally husband and wife in March 2019.  In July 2021, DeWitt and Monica were blessed with the arrival of a little boy, DeWitt Walker King, V.  DeWitt loved his son dearly and would often read books or play games with him. He had even saved a baseball and mitt from his childhood in anticipation of the day they would play catch together.

DeWitt was a true Renaissance man.  He enjoyed going to baseball games as well as philosophy symposiums.  He loved classical music and he could also recite all of the verses to Alice’s Restaurant.  DeWitt had a passion for all things pertaining to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings and Monica often surprised him with the latest related Lego kit.  DeWitt was an avid collector of books and read everything from Agatha Christie to Anthony Bourdain. During his college days, DeWitt trained as a chef and it was always a pleasure to have him in the kitchen. He was a UNC Tarheel fan through and through.

DeWitt was a young man of deep faith.  He studied his Bible and often discussed the comfort of knowing God’s love and the assurance of salvation.  His family takes solace in this knowledge.

DeWitt is survived by his wife, Monica King, son, DeWitt Walker King, V, his parents, Debra and DeWitt King, III and his sister, Ivey King.

A service to celebrate DeWitt’s life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 on January 13, 2024 at 1pm.  The service will also be livestreamed at www.covenantpresby.org/live

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of DeWitt to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC  28204, www.covenantpresby.org.
