Ann Pelton Babcock

December 11, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Ann Pelton Babcock, 102, passed peacefully to the “Next Place” on Monday, December 11, 2023.  She was born on March 2, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan to Chauncey Richard Pelton and Catherine Ann Brown.

In 1946, she met the love of her life, G. Randolph Babcock in Miami, Florida while they were both supporting the war effort.  Ann and Randy married in Miami and moved shortly thereafter to Detroit where Randy joined the Pelton & Crane Company.  In 1955, the company was moved to Charlotte.  Ann and Randy settled into their new location to raise their family and immediately became involved in community activities.  Ann was an active member of the Junior League for 20 years, taught Sunday School for 10 years, and served as PTA President at Myers Park Elementary, Alexander Graham Junior High, and Myers Park High School.   Her entire life was spent supporting her children and serving others.  Ann mainly wished to be remembered as a loving and faithful wife for 56 years, a devoted mother, and a doting grandmother and great- grandmother.  Her family remembers her as one of the most generous, thoughtful and loving individuals they have ever known; one who never complained about anything and who served as the most positive role model they could ever imagine.

Ann is survived by her children, Richard Babcock and his wife, Mary, Gary Babcock and his wife, Sherry, Kitty Babcock Cranor and her husband, John and two beloved members of the extended family, Ann Babcock Morgan and her husband, Jim, and Mary Babcock Edwards, and her husband, Dr. Chuck Edwards.  In addition, she is survived by thirteen great young people, Kelly, Jenny, Chuck, Robby, Brian, Justin, Alex, Leslie, Lindsay, Kristen, Catherine, Jake and Luke and 17 very special little ones of the next generation.

A private family service was held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be offered in memory of Ann to Central Piedmont Community College Foundation, PO Box 35009, Charlotte, NC 28235 (https://www.cpccfoundation.org/donation/) or the charity of donor’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

    Gary-

Pam Waller saw your Mother’s obituary in the paper and was kind enough to send it along.

Your Mother sure seemed like a remarkable woman. 102 years old! The obituary did a very nice job of describing how incredibly central family was to her. She had terrific values and lived her long life that way.

We hope and trust that you, Sherry, and all your family are doing well. You always struck me as someone with talent, charisma, and intelligence.

Anna and I moved to Colorado five days ago to be closer to our daughter and her husband. Dave Sanders and I were business partners for 16 years until we sold our company 9 years ago. We stayed close until he passed away at 90 years old a couple of years ago. His widow Miriam and two of his adult children live in tbe area here and we all stay in touch although I certainly miss Dave.

Gary my very best to you.
