Ruth Lee Creech

December 11, 2023

Ruth Lee Creech was 94 years old when she died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 10, 2023 at her home in Charlotte, NC.  Born in Atlanta, GA, on August 2, 1929, she married Samuel Dean Johnson and had three children – Jane Houston, Dean X Johnson and Cathy Ruth Johnson. Later she married Harvey Creech, Sr. in Charlotte.  She is survived by her daughter Cathy who lives in Singapore, her son-in-law Tom Creech and his wife Millie Creech of Charlotte, her “sister-cousin” Barbara Estes and “sister-cousin” June Dyches and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins in Virginia, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Colorado and Texas.

She was a smart, clear-headed lady all her life.  Ruth studied law at John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, was a Christian and a member of various Baptist Churches in places where she lived, most recently a member of the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church of Charlotte.  She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Charlotte Chapter.

She was a mother whose priority was taking care of her kids and their home, and after moving to Charlotte accepted an office job to support herself and her children.  She made excellent deviled eggs and creamed corn and loved Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, Judge Judy and true crime stories.

Her warm personality, giving nature and sense of humor meant many people felt blessed being with her – and she was most happy when surrounded by family and friends.

Ruth was fortunate enough to be under the care of the amazing hospice professionals of Health Partners (formerly Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region) who supported her in enjoying the best possible life towards the end.

She will be buried with her late husband Harvey at Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield, NC.  There will be a memorial service in her honor on April 21 at 2:00pm at Providence Meadows Retirement Living on Providence Rd. and Kuykendall Rd.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Ruth was one of my favorite friends ever. I can not think of her without smiling. She brought happiness to everyone always. We had a 'thing going about fruitcake cookies and pecans. Ruth laughed as hard as everyone in the Elspeth class the day she 'sat' in the floor and her wig flew off, and David Dance popped it back on her head. So many wonderful memories of.dear.Ruth. Never to be forgotten
