CHARLOTTE – Una McBane Jeffries, 100, died peacefully at her home in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 16, 2023. 

Una was a piano teacher until she was 92 at her home studio.  She was for years an active member of Myers Park Baptist Church and sang in the choir.  Una also served as a Stephen Minister and was in Missionary Round Table study and took Workbench Study as she was always interested in deepening her faith.  Her attitude for study was instilled in her from her Quaker background growing up in Snow Camp.  She gained her appreciation for music from her mother, who was a choir director and pianist and lived until the age of 99½.  Una was one of four children and the only girl.  Sundays were always spent going to church.

Una graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro where she sang in the chorus and was a soloist her senior year for Sunrise Easter Service at Moravian Cemetery in Winston-Salem.  She did graduate work at UNCG and Teacher’s College in New York City.  Una taught music in public school in Burlington for a time.  She married her husband, Bill, in 1943 and they were married for 42 years until his death in 1985 in Charlotte.  They were blessed with two children, son, Bill and daughter, Patricia Ann (PJ).

Una was always an active walker and continued walking two miles a day until she was in her 90’s when it was no longer safe for her to be walking the streets around her house.  Una loved for visitors to come by and she never lost her love of music.  She especially enjoyed visits from family.  Una was blessed by her daughter, PJ, who visited when she could, and her son, Bill and his wife, Terri, and their three sons, Grant, Ross and Sean who lived nearby.  She passed on her love for music to another generation who were her students.

Una was under Hospice care as her time with us ended and she was blessed with caregivers who loved her and provided care that made each day of living a gift.  She was a Charter member of PEO Chapter G and they have remained in touch with her.

A service to celebrate Una’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 28,^, 2023, at Myers Park Baptist Church.
