MATTHEWS, NC - Phyllis Justice Mills, 85, of Matthews, NC died November 10, 2023. She was born in Lincolnton, NC on September 10, 1938, the daughter of William Columbus Justice and Iva Anthony Justice.

Phyllis was a graduate of Kings Business College and a long-time member of First Baptist Church Charlotte. She worked for many years as a secretary at several local churches. Faith, family and friends were most important to her. Phyllis was blessed with the gift of hospitality, which she practiced as part of the Martha Ministry at her church. She also volunteered in the church library. Phyllis was a voracious reader, loved to travel and was a great cook.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 63 years, Walter D. Mills; son, David E. Mills and his wife, Lesa, daughter, Elizabeth A McElrath and her husband, James; grandchildren, Connor F. Mills and his wife, Margaret, William P McElrath and his wife, Megan, David J. McElrath and Duncan E. Mills; special nieces, Gloria Klutz, Susan Colvard and her husband, Jewel Lee, Vivian Darnell and husband, Dan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Funeral services for Phyllis will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2023, at First Baptist Church Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Sharon Memorial Park.
