Sylvia Stogner Bradshaw

July 31, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Sylvia Bradshaw was called home to her heavenly Father on Monday, July 31, 2023.  Born in Lancaster, SC, to Melvin and Cassie Stogner, Sylvia lived most of her life in Charlotte.

She attended West Mecklenburg High School where she was a star basketball player and part of the first graduating class of 1952. It was there where she met her future husband, Bob. Their relationship was a love story from their first date.  Bob and Sylvia were married at Thrift Baptist Church on December 19, 1952.

Sylvia was in data processing at Federal Reserve Bank, Data Processing of the South, and Associated Groceries in Charlotte after taking time to raise four daughters and a son.

A member of Hillcrest Baptist Church since 1962, Sylvia was a faithful servant of Christ, she worked in the nursery, helped with fellowships, and assisted her husband in teaching the young adults throughout the years.  Bob and Sylvia started a young married class that began with no members but quickly grew due to their dedication to visitation.

Sylvia loved her time at the beach with family and close friends every year, always with many youth from church coming to join the family for the week.  Most of all, she looked forward to the 2–3-month trips with Bob every year to Arizona.

Surviving are her daughters, Deb Ward and her husband, Buddy, Jacque Smith and her husband, Don, Brenda Keever and her husband, Joey, Teresa Dillard and her husband, Jeff; son, Shane Bradshaw and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Hana Ward, Josh Ward, Dustin Smith and his wife, Sabrina, Matt Smith and his wife, Amanda, Hayley Steedley and her husband, Spencer, Megan Murray and her husband, Sam, Adam Keever, Luke Keever, Zach Dillard and his wife, Jessica, Cassie Maxwell and her husband, Brandon, Jake Dillard and his wife, Sammi, Cierra Bradshaw, Harleigh Eury, Dylan Garska, and fifteen great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her brother, Jim Stogner and nephews, Greg Stogner and his wife, Heidi and Darryl Stogner and his wife, Jackie Stogner. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, Bob.

A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Gompers, Rev. Willie Rash and Rev Richard Johnson officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

The family would like to thank the Stanley Total Living staff for the loving care they provided Sylvia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Sylvia to Hillcrest Baptist Church, PO Box 689, Charlotte, NC 28130.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Sympathies in the passing of our dear friend but rejoicing the fact that she is with Bob and feeling no pain. She and Bob became an important part of our lives the first time we entered Hillcrest and we have always valued their love for us. We love you all and will always remember them with love??❤️
