Charles Douglas Arthur

CHARLOTTE – Charles Douglas Arthur, “Chuck”, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.  He was born in Duluth, MN the youngest son of eight children on March 17, 1943, to the late John and Ethel Arthur.

Chuck served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war.   He retired as a Retail Manager for Rogers American food broker.  He was involved in helping his father-in-law, the late Charles Rector, run the Long Creek Mill…Hanging by a Thread business in Gastonia, NC.

Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He loved telling stories of his past and never met a stranger.    He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with friends and family especially at his West Jefferson cabin.  Chuck loved sitting outside with his dog, Susie Q enjoying the morning air.  He was passionate about cooking for others and was known for his famous baked beans, chili and sloppy joe.  Chuck also loved his garden which was filled with tomatoes, okra, squash and occasionally his favorite flower, sunflowers.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Emily of twenty-five years; his daughters, Erin Arthur and Amy Jones and her husband, Randy; sons, Brad Arthur and his wife, Mary Lee, Joe Arthur and his wife, Lell and Andy Arthur and his wife, Andrea and eleven grandchildren.  Also surviving are his sisters, Corrine Woodard and Sally Brouillette; brother, Denny Arthur; nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny and Darryl Arthur and sisters, Peggy Weeks and Jean Johnston. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  Come join and celebrate the wonderful life of Charles Arthur. All the memories will fill the church and Chuck will be laughing with us from the Heavens above.
