Jennifer Zoe Gaber

June 3, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Jennifer “Jen” Zoe Gaber, 26, a radiant soul known for her boundless love and vivacious spirit, departed from us on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

Jen lived her life intensely and generously, and she left an indelible impact on the many lives she touched in her brief time among us. Her energy was palpable, and her smile was a melody, radiating a warmness that was both calming and breathtaking.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jen was a spirited adventurer from her earliest years.  She thrived in competitive soccer, expressed herself beautifully through art, and she felt freest when snowboarding down a mountain.  After elementary school in Auburn, AL and high school in Fayetteville, AR, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. Each of these places, along with Charlotte, held a special place in Jen’s heart—not as mere stops along her path, but as homes.  In each of these places, in addition to her immediate family, there were those who welcomed her, nurtured her smiles, and made her feel safe. Jen’s family extends their deepest gratitude to all who welcomed her into their hearts and homes.

Though Jen wandered, she possessed an innate understanding of her purpose and her strengths from a young age.  She felt a profound connection to children, whose innocence and joy mirrored her own spirit, and dedicated her life to serving others.  In her final role, she found joy and fulfillment in providing comfort and happiness to children with cancer.  In a beautiful twist of fate, they unknowingly returned this gift, bringing brightness and joy to her last days.

We welcome all who loved Jennifer to join us for a celebration of her life at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2023, Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC.   The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Jen leaves behind a loving family who joined her in her journey, celebrated her victories, supported her in her struggles, and now, promise to uphold her legacy.  She is survived by her parents, John and Kelly Gaber of Anderson, SC, and Sharon Gaber of Charlotte, NC; her older sister, Allison of New York, NY; her younger brother, Peter of Boston, MA; her two stepbrothers, True and Corbin Martin of Fayetteville, AR, and her four-legged son, Baxter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Jen to Cool Kids Clubhouse, 9601 Holly Point Drive, Suite 102, Huntersville, NC 28078.  (https://coolkidspro.wpengine.com/donate-now/)

To the Gaber family and friends, my deepest condolences for your loss. I’m keeping you and the family in my prayers and thoughts.

Jennifer and I hadn’t seen each other in years. However, she reached out just a couple of months ago to check on me and see how I was doing in Denver. That was the kind of person Jennifer was. Even though we hadn’t seen each other for some time, she made sure to see if I was okay. There aren’t many people who will check on you to ensure you're doing well after so much time apart, but Jennifer was undoubtedly one of them. This kindness was key to who she was.

We never got to reconnect, and sadly, that will haunt me. But, I will always remember Jennifer for her kindhearted nature, coupled with her positive and radiant charisma. She truly made an impact on my life and those of many others. Jennifer, you will be missed forever. Rest in love.

To Dr. Gaber, Jen’s family and friends,
How incredibly sad to lose such a bright light and beautiful young woman! I remember how often you spoke with other UToledo students about her chosen path after volunteerism proved so meaningful to her, Sharon. I have no doubt she made a profound difference in hundreds of lives during her short lifespan, especially with children. Please know I’m thinking of you and will pray Jen’s rich legacy will inspire each of us to be kinder and gentler, including with ourselves. Peace.

The first memory I have of Jennifer was her ability to light up the room the second she walked in. She radiated such positive and kind energy. She cared for everyone in her life so deeply, and was an incredible friend to me. She stood by my side during summer I lost my brother and brought me so much comfort and peace during an incredibly hard time. Jennifer impacted my life greatly and I was so fortunate to have her as a friend. Rest easy
