Julie Renee Costin

June 1, 2023

Julie was born October 22, 1961, in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of the late James Ray and Louise Grinstead Costin.

Julie is survived by her two daughters, Isabelle, and Olivia Keim, siblings, Janet (Jim) Blane and John (Susan) Costin, and nieces and nephews Alexis, Brent, Shawn, Casey, Ryan, Jack, and Kelly. Julie was artistic and had a big heart for animals and those around her. At a young age, she enjoyed fashion and traveling, even spending two summers in Japan. She was a talented painter and home designer. She loved rescuing animals who needed homes. One of her greatest joys was watching her daughters grow up and supporting their dreams. The family is comforted knowing she is with her parents in heaven, whom she greatly loved and missed.

A special thanks to Kelly Fisher, Fidelis Mwangi, Gail Morrison, Kim McCauely, and James Shearer for being wonderful friends and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte or a charity of one’s choice, 1348 Parker Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, https://humanesocietyofcharlotte.org/give/in-honormemory-of/.

Julie was such a fun person. We were friends as children at CCDS and for many years to follow. I have many fond memories of her and times spent at the house on Belvedere and traveling to the mountains with her parents. She and I traveled to Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand together as young adults. She had a wonderful sense of humor and great enthusiasm for adventure. I fondly remember when she attended my wedding, she caught the bouquet and laughed so hard! So many great memories of Julie.
My sincerest condolences to John and Janet, Olivia, Isabelle, and the entire family. I am so sorry for your loss.

My dear cousin had the biggest heart & was one the most generous people I’ve ever known. As a teen and young adult, I looked forward to spending a week with her every summer. She welcomed me into her home and provided fun and friendship. She also had the best sense of humor and loved animals. She was always good to take photos & send copies of our fun times together because she was so thoughtful. I will be forever thankful to her for spending that time with me.

It’s so hard to sum up everything that she means to me, but suffice it to say that I loved her dearly. She will be forever in my heart!

My deep condolences to friends and family in Charlotte.

Julie was one of my oldest and dearest friends. Ever since we met at UNCC we were very close throughout the 1980s-present. I worked with her for several years at her Sugar Mountain Ski shop and we traveled together to the mountains and the beache. We spent many weekends together and I have great memories of our time together. I was shocked at her passing having spoken with her only a few weeks prior. My heart is broken and I feel great sadness. Condolences to John and Janet and the Costin family. Although I live in LA and won't be able to attend the services and memorial at the family home, my heart and spirit will be there. Julie will greatly missing and forever in my heart. I love you Julie!
