Anna Geraldine Hart Bracey

Anna Geraldine Hart Bracey, of Charlotte, formerly of Montezuma and Rowland, died peacefully in hospice care on June 2, 2023, with family at her side. Anna was born in Princeton, New Jersey on September 25, 1928 to Masten Stanley Hart and Ruby Hester Hart.

Anna attended James A. Gray High School in Winston-Salem. Soon after graduating, she met the love of her life, Richard Bracey, while he was playing in a summer dance band. They were married at the beach and celebrated 68 years of marriage, until Richard’s death in 2019. Richard’s public education career took them to Chapel Hill, Laurel Hill, Montgomery County and Avery County. With each move, Anna held down the home front.

Anna enjoyed genealogy (especially her Campbell Clan), sewing, knitting and all things UNC.

Anna and her husband, Richard relocated to The Carriage Club in Charlotte, NC in 2016 and were members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Anna is survived by two sons: William Richard Bracey, Jr. (Sharon) and Stanley Clarence Bracey (Catherine); granddaughters Emily Bracey, Mary Clare Chinery (Alex) and Caroline Bracey; and great-granddaughter Mary Scott Chinery. She is also survived by a brother, M. Eugene Hart (Joy) of Lexington, by a sister, Joan Hart Grant of Kernersville and by nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Anna is preceded in death by a son, James Stephen Bracey; a daughter, Katherine Hart Bracey; and a brother, Richard Hart.

Interment in Montezuma, NC will be private. Memorials can be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Attn: Avery County Habitat Mission Project, 1000 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
