Suzanne Fox Hemingway

April 30, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Suzanne Fox Hemingway, 75, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023.  She was born on October 13, 1947, in Kissimmee, FL to the late Charles and Phyllis Fox.  After losing her brother during childhood and growing up as an only child, her goal was always to have a large family.

Suzi graduated from Waynesburg University with honors where she met her husband of fifty-two years.  After college, she was employed by the Playtex Corporation in Boston, MA, where she was a pioneer as the first female to work in her department.  Shortly after marrying Chip at his ancestral home in Maine, the couple moved to Charlotte where they started a family, and she began her career as an Interior Designer.  Suzi successfully owned Hemingway Interiors for over thirty years.  Her warm and infectious personality created friendships with clients, as she was a wonderful listener and gave as much life advice as she did decorating.

Suzi’s biggest sources of pride were her children and grandchildren, and she cherished her role as “Nina.” Her endearing smile and her open arms made it natural for her to take many of her children’s friends under her wing while treating them as her own. She could always be counted on to have warm, homemade chocolate chip cookies waiting for all.  Her most wonderful accomplishment was being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

While she loved her family’s annual trips to the coast of Maine, she was just as happy having a cup of coffee on the porch surrounded by her family. They were her greatest gift.

Suzi is survived by her husband, Chip; children, Stuart, Jonathan and Caroline; and eight grandchildren, Clayton, Alison, Adam, Berkley, Maddie, Annie, Jack, and Ford, all of whom adored her.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service in the Blue Room at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Suzi to the Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209 or https://www.alz.org/northcarolina/donate.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

I’m so sorry to hear about Suzi’s death. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile and hug for everyone. She and Chip were among the greatest parents of teenagers I’ve ever seen in action. I know she was proud of all of them and all of the grandchildren. She was a gift to so many. Prayers are ascending for all of you as you mourn her death. Josephine

To the Hemingway family, I am deeply sorry for the loss of your love one. I sorry that I didn't get the time I really wanted to spend with her. But, I truly appreciate you all allowing me the opportunity to get to meet such a humble, beautiful person, as well as your Dad. Two amazing people. I am praying for you Mr. Chip, and your family peace, healing. Love you all.

    Vanessa,
