Priscilla Thomas Schiefer

January 5, 2023

Priscilla Thomas Schiefer, affectionally known as “Pris” by those who knew her well, passed away on January 5, 2023, at Atrium Health Dickson Heart Unit. Pris was born January 12, 1940. She and her twin brother were the last of Charles and Alice Thomas’ seven children. Pris had sweet memories of growing up in Dilworth and Myers Park, graduating from Myers Park High School in the class of 1958, and later from St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

On September 8, 1962, Pris married Ware Schiefer. The couple celebrated all the wonderful years together at their 60th anniversary this past September.

Pris was preceded in death by five of her siblings that included her twin brother who lived for only four days. She is survived by her husband and three children – Ware Schiefer III and his wife Jinny of Houston, TX, Shannon Schiefer of Charlotte, NC, and Laura McDade of Greensboro, NC; her two grandchildren Sydney Slate McDade and Thomas Graham McDade; and a brother – Garland.

Unwavering in her Christian faith, Pris taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. As a woman of energy and independence, she enjoyed playing bridge, loved entertaining family and friends, and designing and decorating homes. Pris and Ware, who is truly her best friend, enjoyed traveling to over 40 countries, from exploring salt mines in Poland to riding on the Orient Express. Her spirit of adventure served her well the day Pris triggered the alarms at the Moscow airport and wound up being interrogated by machine-gun-toting Russian soldiers. It turned out that radiation injected into her bloodstream during a stress test had set the horns to blaring. Pris smiled at the memory…that was Pris!

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, 1:00 pm, at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Visitation to follow in the parlor.

A gift in her memory can be made to Crisis Assistance Ministry, 500-A Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC, 28206 or https://crisisassistance.org; Crossnore Communities for Children, PO Box 249, Crossnore, NC, 28616 or https://www.crossnore.org; or Humane Society of Charlotte, 1348 Parker Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28208 or https://www.humanesocietyofcharlotte.org.
