Richard Query "Dick" Stilwell, 95, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016. Son of the late Thomas Luther and Caroline Hovis Stilwell, he was born December 21, 1920 in Mecklenburg County, attended Berryhill School and was a graduate of the National Radio Institute.

Dick was a Charter member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church and was elected an Elder in 1947 when the church was organized. He was an Elder when it closed in 2003 and then joined Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. He was employed with Lance for 27 years and then started his own business, Stilwell TV Service which he operated for over 25 years.

Dick was a lifetime member of the South Mecklenburg Optimist Club and followed the Optimist Creed and promised himself to always find good in others and enjoy serving others. He was a kind, gentle, caring, and soft spoken man with a witty sense of humor. Dick lived a devoted Christian life and always put the Lord and his family first.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 74 years, Eloise Melton Stilwell; sons, Foy Stilwell of Charlotte, NC and Richard Stilwell and wife, Janet of Sherrills Ford, NC; brother, Roy Stilwell of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren, Scott Stilwell, Teresa Bednarski, Amy Heim, Jon, Jeff, Roddy and Tommy Burris; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Lauryn, Bradley Timothy, Joseph, Christopher, Jacqueline, Joshua, Jarrett, Jonathan and Emilee; and one great-great granddaughter, Imogene.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by sisters, Dora Hammer, Emily Smith and Carrie Louise Presson and brothers, Robert and Marion Stilwell.

A funeral service for Mr. Stilwell will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Mr. Stilwell will lie in state at the church an hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the service in the family life center. Interment will be private.
