Betty Marie Thompson Dunn died peacefully at home on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the age of 97.  She was born on March 2, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan, to Wayland Holden Thompson and Rose Valeda Fournier Thompson.  She graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit and then worked for The Aluminum Company of America and J.L. Hudson Department Store. In 1944, she married David Wilson Dunn, who she met in junior high school. They were married for 53 years. 

The Dunn's lived in Royal Oak, Michigan until 1953 when they moved to Hollywood, Florida (where she worked at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce), and then Deerfield Beach, Florida.  A few years after her husband’s death in 1998, she moved to Charlotte, NC. 

Betty is survived by her sister, Ruth McCarey; her son, David Bruce Dunn (Pamela); her daughter, Janice Dunn McNeely (Patrick); four grandchildren, Avery David McNeely (Samantha), Meghan Dunn Gordon (Kevin), Holden James McNeely (Alexis), and Ryan David Dunn (Nadine); and great-grandson, Hudson Maverick Gordon. 

She found joy in her family, her church (First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, Florida), the Florida beaches, the N.C. mountains, riding with her parents & sister in the family’s “Tin Lizzy” to movies & to get ice cream in Detroit, a trip with her husband to England & Scotland, baking for others, chocolate, fresh flowers, memories of times with close friends (including sister Ruth, Ruth and Bob, Jean and Marty, Dottie, Doris and Lou,  Lilly and Roy, Cody and Phil, Laura May, Henrietta and Ed, El and Katie, Robin and Al, Rosie and Rich), and Hudson’s elephant. 

Memorial services will be private. Contributions in Betty’s memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
